| Applying for a Credit Card | When applying for a credit card, every student should remember that he or she is laying the basis of his or her creditworthiness. The financial status therefore established will influence future transactions, like a residence rental, insurance, car loans and so on. Any future cards a student acquires will be offered on the basis of his or her dependability as determined by these records.
Before a student applies for a student credit card, he or she should investigate the annual fee, the interest charge, the transaction fee and any other charges. Credit terms differ according to the issuer. Consider whether a student will be paying off his or her dues monthly or whether he or she will pay off purchases eventually.
To defend student credit record, every student should take care to use the card appropriately: keep track of all charges, pay dues monthly, never exceed credit limit, avoid over-limit fee.
If a student failures to pay his or her charges, a credit report statement that includes details of his or her wrongdoing will be issued by a credit-reporting agency. Any legal business can access this credit report in the future. But without a student’s previous agreement, student credit card creditors and employers cannot get these reports. Negative information can remain in his or her report for 7 years and bankruptcy can stay till 10 years. If ever the debt against his or her credit card gets out of contro l, a student should make contact with the issuer and make a modified payment plan when he or she will be able to pay.
The majority of students use their student credit cards to take almost anything without consideration, and thus end up still paying off their credit card debts well into their 30s. Certainly, student credit cards make life easier for the cautious student who shops cleverly and controls money cautiously.
